Accountability
What is Accountability?
Accountability means that:
Humans are responsible for AI systems and their decisions
There is clear ownership of outcomes
Organisations can audit, explain, and correct AI behaviour
In simple terms:
AI doesn’t take the blame—people and organisations do
Why it matters
AI systems can make impactful decisions, but they:
Don’t have legal or moral responsibility
Can produce incorrect or harmful results
So organisations must:
Take responsibility for outcomes
Put governance and oversight in place
Ensure decisions can be reviewed and challenged
